I love this culture bits. We were colonized by Spain from the 15th century. Now, interestingly, due to the Panama Canal and the American presence here, it is English that has an influence in our culture. We have a lot of spanglish slang here.

To Nugar. The Philippines had been under Spanish rule for more than 300 years (mid 1500s to late 1800s). Everything, from our language to our culture had been greatly influenced by the Spanish. Most of us has Spanish ancestry, thus the Spanish surnames.

Interesting that "basura" and "multa" are in Spanish. Do you have many Spanish words there? I know there are a lot of Spanish-sounding surnames...
