On the 12 of June of 1572, by orders of Andres Diaz Venero de Leyva was founded the town of "Villa de Leyva". The complete name of the time was "Villa de Nuestra Señora de Santa María de Leyva". This town still retains a lot of the original architecture from that time. It has been restored and it is now a historic treasure. It is located 3.5 hours from Bogota by a very good road that passes through the departments of Cundinamarca and Boyaca.
