NEW ROADS AHEAD

SOUTHPORT

Oh well, back to work and normality (whatever THAT is) after the festive season. I was trying to come up with an idea for a PaD shot, this morning, with the weather being pretty grim and not being able to get away from work to do much. My lunch break was spoken for as I had arranged to meet friends and it would be dark when I finished work. Looking out of the window, I saw this lampost with the roadsign on it. I popped out and grabbed a couple of shots, hoping to get something better later on. Well, I didn't, even though the sun came out later.

The more I thought what I could do with this shot, the more symbolic it became. I decided to desaturate the main image and darken the actual lamp post to a silhouette, whilst burning in some of the already dark clouds. This being to symbolise the dullness of winter and the fact that I have been stagnating in recent weeks, indeed most of last year was a bit unadventurous. The roadsign has been brightened by being left in colour, proclaiming 'new road layout ahead' symbolising the hope of bright new paths to tread with the new year that has just arrived. OK, but why the 'plane? Well, I love recreational flying and spent far too much time with my feet on the ground last year. Hopefully that will change this year.

So, here's to an interesting new year for us all in 2005. May it be full of new roads to travel (all good), and new things to experience and enjoy.

This isn't my greatest of images, but all comments are still welcome. Thanks.

Oh no, not more roadworks in Southport!! Seriously though, I like this. The dark sky reflects the mood of a lot of people after returning to work after Christmas!
