First I removed the red film stripe by isolating the area and adjusting the color balance. Darker areas were lightened somewhat to reveal a bit of texture. The door was totally black, so was given some color. The entire picture was lightened and color balanced and blended, before the final watercolor filter was applied. I think the picture was worth rescuing!
