GS101.JPG

We found the owner living in a lean-to on the motu His name was Ian McNare. Ian told us that he has been sailing for over 20 years and didn’t know how to stop. Then he said, that maybe this was God’s way of helping him stop sailing. We heard that a week after we left Suvaroff, another couple of cruisers came, had some fiberglass and resin, repaired his boat and got him back in the water. Then, when going to Fiji he again hit a reef and again was saved. When I was giving this show to friends from South Africa about three years after we had completed our circumnavigation, Roger piped and said, “ Ian McNare, I don’t believe it! Last year he was sailing from Durban to Cape Town and once again he fell asleep and this time sailed onto the beach and his boat was totally destroyed. Well he fnally stopped sailing!
