(Day 83) This time of year, the week before and the week after Christmas, Williamsburg is just bustling with families touring the sites. My wife and I often stroll though the Colonial village with our yellow lab just to take in the sites and sounds. It's a great place to walk or jog since cars are not allowed though you do need to take care. A wrong step could land you squarely in a big old pile of horse dung. The later in the day, and the more care you need to take :).
Nearly always our walks cast a pied-piper effect on the children. It's in part because of our dog, but more because the kids are bored silly with the drab historic stuff especially during school holiday. Our yellow lab provides a needed diversion and the kids are quick to pounce on the opportunity. "Can we pat your dog?" and our gentle 13 year old dog is quickly surrounded. Usually it's a couple of gentle pats on the back and they are shuffled off again by their parents, however, yesterday was a bit of a surprise for old Sage. This little girl bent over and planted a big old kiss right on her snout. Actually, I think Sage kind of liked it. On our way home, I couldn't help but stop as the sky burned with fire at the sun set. |
