Blackout - December 26-04

The net cafe was closed 2 days, so I uploaded 3 day's successive pictures today. Have a look at 24 and 25 pictures as well.

This is a picture of a kerosene lamp on my house entrance during a blackout.

Wallang Corriente (no electricity), the first words in tagalog I could understand. The Philippines are among the most corrupt countries in the world. Politicians just put more then 90% of the money they get in their own pocket. That is one of the reasons why there is no real progression in technology and business in this country. Governor Villarosa got once millions of $ to build a highway of more then 200 kms with 4 driving lanes. In 1999 there where just 60 kms of simple concrete road build. The highway never took place, the money has disappeared. The electrical power company belongs to Villarosa and he got from the governement enough money to set up a brand new powerplant for San Jose - Mindoro. He bought old used generators and the rest of the money disappeared like usualy. Still today the electrical power delivery is assumed just 30% of the time during the year. The generators are that old and worn that the production can't be assumed. At this years elections, the local governor candidate, former Congress Woman Nene Ramirez-Sato promised that if she was elected, there where new genrators within one month. Nothing happened. Today she is Governor and still ; Wallang Corriente. Note that she ows 12 european high standing cars. I told her 3 years ago that it was better to build the roads first and buy the cars afterwards. A statement that did not make her very happy, but, like allways, truth hurts.
