I took this one the way home from work. This is just outside the Bank Underground Station in The City,
London's financial district. That's the Bank of England lit up on the left, and the Royal Exchange
(for years a centre for insurance, but now a centre for luxury shopping) on the right.
Usually the streets in the City are deserted by 6.30 on a Friday evening, but tonight - a week before
Christmas - things were different. The shops were still open, office parties were in full swing
... all of a sudden, a dead City was alive.
This photo is driving me crazy. It's not very good, I know, but there's something about it that I like.
So I have played with it for nearly an hour in Photoshop; I have adjusted levels, made it monochrome,
turned it back into colour and applied all sorts of weird filters. I finally decided to half-desaturate
it -- enough to make it a bit more stark, but not enough to remove all of the red from the buses.
It's probably still a lousy photo, but ... I still like it.
