The Lloyd's of London Building was very controversial when it opened in the mid-1980s, but it
barely warrants a glance from City workers today. Still, during the summer, scores of tourists can be
seen prowling around the exterior of the building (the interior is not open to the public), trying to take
snapshot of the exterior pipework at odd angles (as I have done here).
I worked in the Lloyd's Building for about a year. When I took some friends for the States on a tour,
the first question they asked was: "Which of the pipes are connected to the toilets?"
