Pope coded his re rifling to tell the twist rate in his gain twist. The code indicates what the rifling starts off as in the breech end ( 1-24") and what it ends up with at the muzzle end (one turn in 18") . The number to the right of the twist rate is the barrel job number. The number 3 is Winchester's barrel weight number.
