PILL YOUR CAT

They said it was going to be easy. Open her mouth, stick the pill in the back of her mouth and rub her throat until she swallows it. WHAT????? Who are they kidding? Tenglo is not stupid, she won't open her mouth except to bite me. I can't get that damn pill in her. The one time I did, she spit it back out after breaking it into 4 pieces. AAAaaarghhh. Ten more days of this? No way. I have tried everything. Hiding it in Tuna, Beg, diluting it in water, Diluting it in Tuna water. That cat ain't having any of those pills in her system. I am so frustruated!!!!!!

...OR Call the vet and tell him that it's no hope. The vet has a liquid antibiotics waiting for me to pick. I sure hope it will be easier, I would still have to open her darn jaw. That cat clenches that jaw of hers like her life depended on it.

OK I know how to do this....Krusty was on thyroid meds for 10 years!

OK, STRADDLE the cat...(I'm serious) Get on him and straddle him TIGHT, using your legs to hold him in place. Then Have the pill in one hand and use the other to YANK his mouth open FORM THE TOP....Put your thumb on one side, and yourindex on the other side of his mouth and pull UP. The mouth will open wide, Pull his head back that way, and SQUEEZE with your legs so he can't escape. Throw the pill back with the other hand that ISN'T holding his mouth. Really this position works...Also have a plate of REALLY stinky fishy cat food JUST out of reach as a reward...It will get easier!! LOL!!

Thanks Angela. Someone else told me about the peanut butter. I guess I should try it and see if it works. Knowing my cat, she'll manage to find a way to eat around the pill. :(

Oh Lara, I feel for you. Medicating animals is never easy. With our dog Sam, we have to put her pills (that she has to take daily for the rest of her life) in either Velveeta cheese or peanut butter. Both she likes, and truth be told, it's rather amusing for us to watch her with the peanut butter because of course it sticks to the roof of her mouth ;) I've no idea how to do pills with a cat though -- trick and sly animals they are. I wish you lots of luck and hope kitty gets better soon!
