The Gibbous Moon *
by mlynn

On Friday evening I was on my way to dinner when I noticed the full moon positioned just so behind this vapor/steam plume.
There were also some cool, moonlit clouds in the sky. It was quite stunning and oddly beautiful-- so I stopped to try and take some pictures.
Unfortunately, I didn't have my tripod with me, and I don't really know what I'm doing when it comes to nightshots.
None of the pictures turned out; the exposures were either too short or too long, and everything was blurry (even though I rested the camera on the hood of my car -- the only surface available).
I was bummed when I downloaded the pictures.
So Sunday evening, I dashed out and went back to the same spot with my tripod, and took several more pictures (no clouds this time-- and the moon was a bit lower (and it was quite cold out)).
But I actually ended up with some pictures I could use-- I was so excited!

I am always intrigued by plumes of smoke/vapour at night in colder weather, but mostly they just look cool! You really nailed this shot well: superb composition and exposure.

Neat image, Melanie. You must have had to wait in the cold for this 'perfect moment'. Bev
