St. John the Baptist Church

Edgard, LA St. John the Baptist Parish

On February 21, 1770, Spanish Authority set property aside for a church on the Second German Coast. The church served both the east and west bank on the river until 1864. The church was destroyed by fire in 1918 and this one was built in its place and consecrated in 1920. The old cemetery contains the grave of the wife of Gen. P.G.T. Beauregard and the John Slidell family tomb. You can see a few of the old graves here, though I was really shooting the No Parking sign :)

It's a lovely church. The view from those spires would be pretty good too I imagine.
I tried to link a thumb in my PaD today but must have missed something in Lee's intsructions

The church looked like a tough shot with the light behind it, however I like the shadows and the brilliant sky.

Beautiful old church. That No Parking sign looks as old as the tomb.
