We stayed in the hotel behind the band - it's a best western although oddly you cannot find it on the best western site - you have to contact the hotel direct. It has great views of the Zocalo and the rooms are quite nice too. the covered balcony at the top is the restaurant - a great place for breakfast. I recommend the hotel - especially if you can get a view of the Zocalo - but make sure you have mosquito repellent - there's some in the rooms though we didn't encounter any outside?! We stayed here on a previous trip and had the same experience. If you don't like an early wake up call then this is not the place to stay because it's a prime spot to watch the raising and lowering of the Zocalo flag which happens at sunrise and sunset.
