North face of Mount Darwin

Mount Darwin is the monarch of the Evolution Basin. It is one of the highest peaks in the Sierra Nevada, at 13,831' elevation. It is a squarish hulk compared with it's more gothic neighbors. The summit plateau is an ancient 'roof pendant' - a fragment of the hilltops that existed here before the glaciers did their work. The north face of Mount Darwin sports two 'pocket' glaciers, remnants of a much larger Darwin Glacier.
