Paperweight

I found this lens at a pawn shop today, and the price was only $10.
No way to check it out so I just bought it. Didn't realize that the
lens has an FD rather than an EF lens mount. It's a cool looking lens.
A 100mm 2.8 manual focus prime, metal housing, rugged but light.

But totally useless on my Rebel. I was hoping all the way home that
I had found a "find" like people who buy something cheap at a flea
market and KNOW they got quite a deal.

I got a paperweight. Actually, not quite true. It came with a 52mm
Hoya UV filter, which retails (new) for $18 at B&H. So all's not lost.
I still like the feel of this lens in my hand. Damn it why couldn't it
work on the 300D???

other sizes: small medium original auto

What a great macro shot Gary, I feel as if I can reach right through my screen and pick this baby up. I am sure you will find some use for this, the ideas to use it as a macro with a converter sounds interesting.

Great job Gary for thinking the positive! Nice shot!

Gary I think your exposure and detail on this are excellent.
Interesting story.

Wow, I think this still could be a great find. A converter costs what, under $100? 100mm f/2.8 - isn't that the precursor to the one everyone's been using as a macro? And macros you want to manually focus anyway? Gotta find me one of those Pawn Shop places.

Russ, I have no idea what the letters stand for, the the FD mount is an older mount for Canon. It's probably twenty years old? It doesn't have all the electronics that they use nowadays. And the focus is manual, at least on this one. Plus you set the aperature on the lens, not the camera.

I would have bought it, too, for $10 bucks. What's an FD mount, anyway? (In case I see the same thing at a pawn shop ;) )

If it sounds too good to be true …………….

I have a whole lot of paperweights; they're various film cameras.... and two of the EF-S 18-55 kit lenses... glad you could use something in your loot!

You got yourself a very fine glass - now go and get the AE1 at ebay and enjoy shooting film for a change :-)

OK, At least you gota good deal, since is a great price just $10.00. Now I`m sure must be converters which make it possible.

I am sure if I dig around I can find some additional paperweight for you not Canon but Konica. Check with Robin on his obsolete 10D .....LOL

have a look there, they make it possible

There are FD to EF converters available if you really want to try it on your Reb. For future reference, if it has an aperture ring, it's not an EF ;-)
