3:18 PM

3:18 PM. I absolutely love this image, for it represents the essence of the afternoon at the tufa field that day; the golden grasses and bushes; the tufas (in shadow most of the afternoon); and the Sierras, blanketed in clouds and snow. I found this composition quite a bit earlier, but had to wait some time for the sun to peak out and bless the foreground with some backlighting. I stopped way down to f/22 to hold focus throughout the image. 1/125 sec, f/22. 70-200L. Several variations of this photograph have the background somewhat out of focus, which actually works quite well. This was my last photo for a while at the South Tufa field. The light was far too fickle, and I chose to grab a quick bite to eat and charge up my batteries while I waited to see what would happen for sunset...
