Egyptian Museum - Cairo
This is the famous life sized idealized mask protecting Tutankhamen's head and shoulders after mummification.
It was inside the innermost of 7 coffins covering his mummified body in his tomb which was found virtually intact by Howard Carter in 1922.
The mask is made of solid gold inlaid with semi precious stones and colored glass.
This picture was taken using natural light from a window,
The room where Tut's golden mask and coffins are located has been remodeled, darkened to almost pitch black with dramatic lighting, and now difficult to get a good image.
Most recently, no photography at all is allowed in the Egyptian Museum in Cairo, so I feel very fortunate to have these images.
