Older Tunisian women would normally cover themselves in a "sifsari", a white cloth that acts as a veil and cloak. For many years, women in Tunisia, like in many Arabic countires, faced much oppression and were segregated from society. They stayed home away from the public eye and were covered up whenever they had to go out. Although Tunisia claims to be a liberal muslim nation, many older women still cling on to their traditions. These women look like they would blend into the wall perfectly, and disappear from society, without being seen or heard, like they would have been expected to many years ago.
