This mosque was founded in 732 AD right in the heart of the Tunis Medina and completed by the Aghlabid rulers in the 9th century. It was further expanded over the next few centuries, resulting in an eclectic mix of styles. Here, the 19th century square minaret of a style similar to that found in the Almohad empire in Marrakesh, stands in contrast to the roman columns that are found in the very same complex.
