Ksar Ouled Soltane is one of the most well-preserved ksour in southern Tunisia, and got its 15 minutes of fame as the part of the Mos Espa slave quarters in the Star Wars movie, "The Phantom Menace". Ksour were not just pragmatic structures for storing grain, but many communal activities also took place in its courtyards. People would gather inside to pray, socialize, drink tea and exchange news. I thought the two men would eventually come and bug me relentlessly, and try to convince me to take up their "tour guiding" services like they often do at most historical attractions of Tunisia. But I was surprised that they kept to themselves, enjoying their peace and quiet, reading and drawing, and allowing me to go about exporing the place peacefully on my own.
