The brickwork here in Tozeur, as in Nefta is unique in the whole of Tunisia. The bricks are traditionally made and arranged in geometrical patterns, a decorative technique first used in Syria & Iraq in 8th century. These techniques were brought here in the 10th century by Arab invaders. Today, Iran is the only other country to practise this technique.
