The geyser at the all-American town of Soda Springs is reputedly the only "captive" geyser in the world. It was created in 1937, during an attempt to find a source for hot water for a swimming pool. The drilling reached an area of carbon dioxide gas mixed with tepid water (72 degrees). The high pressure from the gas is now controlled by a timer that allows the geyser to erupt every hour on the hour, making it more faithful than Old Faithful. Pure Americana, the geyser is beautiful, exciting and hokey all at the same time. It was a great way to end the day at the end of our trip.
