When he wasn't doing business in LA, Paris, New York or San Francisco Mr Huntington one of the richest men in the world wearing his white straw hat and suit would stroll across the lawn to sit on this tree and contemplate....ignoring the bench on the right.
He loved nature and especially Oak trees and when this tree fell before the house was completed Huntington requested the first tree surgery in Southern California to save it.
This tree is still alive in the form of a feeder root that has grown into a brand new tree.
His great vision was to save the finest rare books of the Anglo American world that were in peril of decaying to the elements.
In 1915 he completed a giant ediface to house these books and hired a staff to voraciously acquire, preserve and conserve them.
Today the library houses over 6 million books and manuscripts and is used by scholars from around the world.
Thank You Mr. Huntington.
