From Iquique I travelled south on one of the most spectacular roads I have ever been on. The coast between Iquique and Tocopilla is just amazing. I've never been on the Great Ocean Road in Australia, but I think that this would give it a run for its money. From Tocopilla the bus continued east to Calama, where it has supposedly never rained. I stayed for 1 night in Calama. It has a pretty bad name amongst backpackers, but I found it to be OK for a night at least. The reason to visit Calama is for the massive Chuquicamata porphry copper mine. The largest in the world.
