28th September 2004 - Swansong as the Imposter

OK – this is my final trip out as ‘the Imposter’ – tonight I leave all of that behind. I go out on a real heart-wrencher.

It’s not written by Elvis, it’s a country classic and every time I hear it, I weep. Not just ordinary little snivels, great plopping hot tears of misery. It’s not that I’m sad, it’s just that the song drips with pathos and EC does that like no-one else in history.

This photo came about in a flash of inspiration and while I‘ve been at the hospital this afternoon waiting for my consultant to see me, I’ve been sitting sewing my satin heart prop. I’ve felt a bit like the knitting ladies in the French Revolution, waiting for the gut-wrenching bad news and sewing to pass the time. It’s been a bizarre experience.

Oh and Jeanne – once again, I thank you for pushing me to my creative limits. I can’t tell you how difficult this shot was to set up – in fact, the only way I could do it was by reverting to my G3 with its wireless remote control and movable display. So, picture the scene – the doors between the dining room and the middle room open, with a bamboo pole gaffer taped to the top and the strings tied around it. Then a contortionist wriggling into the other ends of the strings and so on. It’s not what I wanted, I wanted focus on the heart and me in soft focus but believe me by the time I’d got a composition I was happy with, I’d lost interest in the niceties of the focal point.

I hope you get it Jeanne – I’m going back to real life tomorrow instead of this fantasy land I’ve inhabited this week.

STOP PRESS: I've just noticed that today I've gone through half a million hits on my PBASE pages - wow - when I started this I never thought it would be so popular - thanks to all who have taken the time to browse - particularly my PotD but also my other galleries too.

Yes, Jeanne - it's

I'm your toy

Thank you for the inspiration!

OK....here we go!

"You may be sweet and nice
That won't keep you warm at night
'cause i'm the one who taught you how
To do the things you're doing now
He may feel all your charms
He may hold you in his arms
But i'm the one who let you in
I was right beside you then

Once upon a time
You let me feel you deep inside
And nobody knew, nobody saw
Do you remember the way you cried?

I'm your toy, i'm your old boy."

I don't see this as "Clowntime is OVer"? I'm thinking it has more to do with the heart and the strings....and WHY don't I know??

Surely he never covered an Abba number "I'm a Marionette"...

Exits stage left to was his mouth out...

The only "country" sounding EC song I can think of is "Stranger in the House"....I'm failing miserably at this game! Linda you are totally kicking my ass!

And this is an AWESOME image by the way, as the ALL have been this week!

Can I have another clue!

OK, it's not Puppet Girl, although it could very well be? That's not a heart wrencher...
I'm still thinking!
