The salt house was built to protect the salt of
merchants trading on the "salt trail". Tradition
has it that the faces on the walls are the faces
of three thieves. They managed to get into the
guarded locked store house but were not able to
get out again and were discovered inside. They
were dealt with harshly and their faces placed
on the walls as a warning to other would be
intruders.
