Built in 1875, John Charles Fremont lived here while serving as the fifth territorial governor of Arizona (1878-1881).
Gov. Fremont didn't spend much time in Arizona and didn't do much for the state.
"...he legalized gambling in the territory and started a lottery to pay for schools and public buildings which collapsed leaving Michel Goldwater (grandfather of Barry Goldwater) to provide refunds for ticket holders..."
