D'Artagnan, founder of The Musketeers, died on this spot while attacking Maastricht in (I think) 1675. During the battle, a huge section of the city wall was blown up. In the background of this image, you can see a lighter-colored section of wall where it was patched up after the battle.

In early 2004, someone in Maastricht was digging up a garden and found D'Artagnan's grave. Although it is somewhere near this spot, no one could tell me exactly where it is located.
