You climb up to the pine tree on the lower left, then walk the ledge, which narrows to just over a foot at the bushes in the line, then climb up to the next level where all the other trees are. Think of it like Donkey Kong, without the flaming barrels and with a 50+ foot drop if you screw up.
I opted against the downclimb.
