Fruit is the way some plants use to survive. The beautiful flower may die, but in doing so, gives way to the seed-bearing fruit. Just one more of the strategies living things use.
This is a Passion Fruit (maracuyá), from my Passiflora edulis flavicarpa. The flower once was a Passion Flower. At the lower left, you can see a bud. As luck would have it, there wasn't an open flower to portray the circle of life.
Canon PowerShot G3 1/125s f/4.0 at 7.2mm iso50. Tripod, focus bracketing. The tough thing to get was the reflection, since the fruit is so glossy. USM 200, a bit of levels. This shot is basically as is from the camera.

Thanks, David! Taking these pics, with the Sun high in the sky, made me learn that working your exposure compensation can make a picture look really different :)

I love the pictures you have posted here, the colours are fantastic. Makes me want to go out and find some fruit to photograph.
I discovered something today. I was mystified because the fruit seemed to appear from nowhere. It turns out that when you see the flower like that it either falls or if it was pollinated, the small maracuya is in there. I did manage to take a side by side picture with another two "models".
