Hi Mike. Thank you.
While I have had considerable experience with FWD in other makes, my experience with Volvo FWDs is limited. I am NOT a fan of FWD, regardless of brand. My attitude is that a real car is rear wheel drive...period...end of story. Therefore, I would be recommending of going with a late 940...'93-'95 in the 'States. (because I am also NOT a fan of aluminum engine blocks). Not caring for FWD, and having considerable antipathy towards aluminum block motors makes it REALLY hard to be even slightly interested in ever having a FWD Volvo....so it is pretty much a cetainty that I never will.

Piston slap in a NA B230F is normal after so many miles; and is usually not fatal in those same NA motors. Just annoying. With boosted motors, it can be a very different story.

Stealth,

I am fascinated by your photos and commentary. I have a 1988 240 wagon that I have maintained over the last 8 years (with 242K miles it still runs strong). I plan to replace it next year with either a 1994-1995 940 Turbo or possibly a 1998 s70 or v70. Do you have experience on the fwd volvos? I am often reading the posts on Brickboard and know there are strong oppinions (mostly against the fwd). I'm interested in the later 940s for the piston oil squirting. My engine runs well, but has exhibited the piston slap for the last 3 years. I'm assuming it will keep on running until I replace the car!

Keep up the good work. I also am an ameture photographer and enjoyed the pix you and your wife have published here.
