August 29, 2004

Another bike ride on Sunday. This one for 50 miles averaging 15.7mph. And then an 8 mile "warm-down" or side-trek to get past the obstacle course that is our capital city. I started a bit late. Should have started at 2pm instead of 3pm. The nice thing is I never "bonked" on the whole ride and feel fine today. Except for the sting I got on my inner thigh while riding. Some kind of flying and stinging insect jabbed me in the thigh while I was cruising. It felt like a thick needle being jammed into me. Since I'm not allergic to bees or anything else I know of, I just kept going. I should post a photo of the wound. Maybe someone will recognize the sting. It's about 1/4 inch in diameter with a large white spot in the center.

Also came upon a large 4+ foot black snake on the trail. Sorry I didn't feel like digging out the camera. We tried to hurry him along.

HERE'S a shot of the trail where I turned around to go back. I knew I had more uphill on the way back, but didn't realize the wind was coming from the east, too! I was slower going back. And HERE I am, stretching, though my hairy thigh is mostly blocked.

50 MILES? Wow! Slowly but surely I'm getting the urge to dust off my bike. I used to love riding it. I was never close to 50 mile trips though! 10 miles was my limit. Now that Casey can ride a bike without training wheels, we'll just have to see what the three of us can manage together.

Gorgeous night shot..50 miles??? Oh my...congratulations.

I hide my posting from public view until complete btw. That may help.

Your alternate photo had certainly better matched the realtion to you story Mark. Sorry to hear you've been hurt. Now, saying what insect stiched you is difficult to say.
Even if this was a bad part of this nice day, another nice one is this beautiful nightshot for sure.

It depends, Robin. Sometimes the story, sometimes the photo. My day was about the bike ride and that it was longer than any previous one this year. My focus was on the ride and not photography. Maybe the photo from the mid-way point would have told that story better. This one tells how late I'm getting home, ie, long ride/late start.

Mark do you want us to respond to your image or to your story? On this one, they run counter to each other. I choose the image, because this is a photography forum... and pain in the thigh or not, you took a very beautiful picture ... protective fences and all.

And I wish people would wait until the title or comment is filled in before posting their own comment! ;-)
