The two halves of this one where shot on consecutive days and 'stitched' together to show the contrast. The tree itself contrasts quite starkly with its surroundings too.
Thanks Markus. I shot them from the same place beside the same small tree as my point of reference, and with the zoom indicator pointing to the middle of the '5' in '50' on the zoom ring of my A1. The bright one was handheld and the dark one was on a tripod. I opened the two images and rotated them so that the horizon at the left was horizontal. I copied the dark image onto the bright one with the dark layer opacity set to 50% so I could see how closely the images matched. I then resized the original and copied until it matched the bright scene very closely. I created a B/W gradient across half of a mask on the dark layer so I could delete the left half of the dark layer with a soft edge at the centre to reveal the bright scene behind. Finally, I adjusted levels on the dark layer to provide a greater contrast between the two halves of the scene.
I have another version close to the tree from a slightly different angle that I might also try to see how it turns out for my PBase galleries.
Great idea John and very well performed! How did you manage to put the pictures together this well? Did you leave your camera outdoors over night, or do you just have a fantastic view from your house? :o) I prefer the left half by the way.
Cheers, Markus
