True Colours Around Antares

The Antares region by a Canon 1Ds. North is roughly towards the left. Stack of nineteen 2.5 minute frames at f2.8. 100mm lens autofocused on Alpha Centauri then turned to the target. Dark-subtracted and flat-fielded. Frankly this region is quite dim and I would have appreciated having 4 times as many frames to stack. The stars are bright enough, it's that colorful nebulosity that's so difficult to coax out. Next time... Nevertheless these are the colours that normal human vision should perceive, were our eyes sensitive enough. Modded DSLRs and astroCCDs are much more sensitive to deep red H-alpha and so one gets a quite different rendition when using such cameras. The 1Ds used here has not been modified. It renders colours accurately akin to human vision.
