21-AUG-04 MY DARLING WIFE

There's an Armed Forces Memorial in Norfolk
It has a series of "letters" from soldiers to their loved ones
These span wars from the Revolution (1775) to the Gulf (1991)

"Tucked into the southeastern corner of Town Point Park, the Memorial is situated on the Elizabeth River, connected to the park by two bridges. Within the Memorial are 20 inscriptions from letters written home by US service people who lost their lives in war. The letters have been cast in thin sheets of bronze, and are scattered across the ground as if blown there by the wind. Seats, which face out to the waterway, encourage rest and contemplation of the words from people who never came home." (Norfolk City Web Page)

Oh Man! This is so beautiful! It must be pretty tough to walk around that memorial without shedding the odd tear or two. War, what is it good for.

Oh Pete. I'm weeping big tears. I've got a very heavy heart right now. Beautifully presented.

Beautiful, sad, important... I want to see this for myself now. What a creative and great idea it was to have them in bronze... scatered about as if wind blown. Thanks Pete.. for sharing this place

This is so very touching....if we would all remember to cherish the little everyday things, and especially to live in the moment. Thank you for this...what a memorial that must be... tears for the ones who didn't come back.

heart wrenching, a very fitting memorial, NOT giant statutes and marshal pomp rather moving
letters to home.

Yes this is emotionally provoking..we take for granted each day our family members, friends forgetful of the ones that do not come home. What a moving image Pete.

Quite profound. And a philosophy to live by. So sad that he didn't make it home.
