Firehouse_DSC_3556

John Brown's final holdout against US Marines was in this firehouse. His plan to steal 100,000 guns from the local armory and lead a slave rebellion in 1859 failed. George Washington sited the armory here at the confluence of the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers in 1794.

And I'm sure you read that it was Col. R. E. Lee who led the group of marines to HF to put down the uprising?
