Local landmark

Biggin Hill Royal Air Force Station operated for 75 years and closed in 1992. It was particularly famous during WWII and during the Battle of Britain in 1940 it housed some of the most famous Hurricane and Spitfire fighter squadrons.

These gate guardians flank the Battle of Britain Memorial Chapel. They are life-sized models of a Hurricane and Spitfire - we had two original planes standing here until about 15 years ago, when they were finally taken away as they were too precious to leave out in all weathers.
