Joop's Dog Log - Friday August 06

Joop in Norway 17

A real Norwegian-Dutch family! We visited them in their home in the city of Bergen.
That is Ann Margret sitting on your right. When I first heard her name I
immediately though of the Swedisch moviestar and singer Ann-Margret (Olssen).
But moviestar A-M`s hair is red and and she`s much older than this Ann Margret.
Still a good name, huh? This Ann Margret plays the harp, among other things..!
The little sleeping human is Jonas. He was accidently born in Sweden,
much too early, he just couldn`t wait to start his life.
With a Dutch father and a Viking mother he`ll grow up to be a great speedskater I`m sure.
And the human sitting on the left is Bernt. He already had a Norwegian name all his life,
now he has a Norwegian woman too. So that was just a matter of time.
He`s a law teacher and a judge and he lives in Amsterdam part-time.
He used to produce radio shows together with my human, long time ago.
So Bernt showed us the streets of Bergen and Ann Margret cooked a good meal for my humans,
and I got to pose on the couch with them.
It was nice and cozy.
If you want to learn about a country you`ve got to meet the locals!

Joop, isn't Bergen a nice city? My bride and I spent the summer we got married living and working in Bergen; it was 1969, the year of the first moon landing. My wife was from Norwegian stock and I was blond and scandanavian looking, so everyone thought we were locals and were always asking us directions to the harbor or the nearest stavkirke. We had a wonderful summer, made wonderful friends, and grew to love Norway.
