Early Sunday morning in Corrientes. Sanj took off the night before for the long trip through the night to Puerto Iguazu. I had opted for a Paraguayan incursion and had booked a bus ticket to Asuncion. I got on the bus at 7:45. We travelled via Resistencia and Formosa to the border at Clorinda. Here things went pear shaped. It turns out that Aussies need a visa to get into Paraguay, something that my travel agent had not told me. He said I just needed a visa for Brazil. Being a sunday afternoon, the Paraguayan visa office was closed and would not open until the next morning. This left me with 2 options. I could stay the night in Clorinda, a really rough looking Argentine border town with no entry in my Lonely Planet and hope that my visa application would be processed quickly the next day (for US$50). I considered this rather risky, for not much reward. Instead I decided to cut Paraguay loose and backtrack to Formosa and then Resistencia, where I got a bus at 21:30 to Puerto Iguazu. I only really opted to go through Paraguay in the first place because relatively few travellers do so. There were no real attractions for me to see in Asuncion, but it was pretty disappointing anyway. Passing through Corrientes at 22:00 I realised I had been travelling for 15.5 hrs, and was back where I started from! Only another 8.5 hrs to go...
