I know this is a terrible photo. Things were a bit busy at the hospital...there, I made an excuse! I did shoot a photo of this sign because it caught my eye. No so much because it is an interesting object, but because it is not. It is supposed to grab our attention and warn us of the hazzards around us. Like car alarms, I think many of us are desensitized to the point that we don't even notice it. I noticed it only because it was blocking a door I was trying to walk through.
I was thinking, why should the triangle shape signal caution more so than another shape. Look at this sign...ACHTUNG, CUIDADO, ATTENTION. Now english-speaking, german-speaking, and spanish-speaking people will be safe. Heck, english-speaking people are doubly-safe because we get ATTENTION, and CAUTION. Now, if the universal shape for caution was an octagon, five more cultures would be safe too. How about PRUDENCE, ATTENZIONE, De WAARSHCHUWING, CAUTELA, and ADVARSEL. Then many more of our international brothers and sisters will be saved. Then again, we can leave out all text since the figure of the guy lounging should be enough to convey the message.
