Green ants, Oecophylla smaragdina

Giddy River, Arnhem Land, NT, Australia

Weaver ants are widely distributed through south-east Asia and northern Australia, where they make nests out of living leaves bound
together with a glue secreted by the ant larvae. During the glueing operation the leaves are held in place by the workers, who use
their combined strength to pull the leaves into position. Of course, the whole thing falls apart if someone starts laughing during this
crucial process.
