You're looking at about 170 miles of the Sierra Nevada that rises like a wall of rock between Sequoia National Park and Yosemite.
The Sierra stretches almost the full length of California and after a short break the Cascades begin and continue to almost join the Rocky Mountain range in British Columbia, Canada.
This shot was made from across the Owens Valley in the White Mountains looking west at an elevation of 10,000 feet.
The oldest trees in the world exist in the White Mountains. The Ancient Bristlecone Pines. Some of them are over 4000 years old.
East across the Whites is Death Valley and the Great American Deserts.
