The Color of Summer By Kimberly

On the way to a favorite hiking spot on Father's day, we came upon this beautiful field of California Poppies. The color took our breath away! This photograph was taken with a Nikon D70.

Beautiful flower shot. I really do like the composition and your use of DOF.

Kimberly you have done it again, another wonderful photo. It really does look like a postcard.
Kind Regards

Agree with the others re DOF, but what really adds the special element here is the little sprig of whatever it is that shoots up on the right. It adds a really nice something that it wouldn't have otherwise.

Kimberly, I adore this. The DOF just makes it perfect. Kudos to you!

Good use of DOF, with the foreground flowers having just a bit more "pop" than the background. Lovely.

g'day Kimberly - wow - talk about 'pop' - this pic has it in abundance, and beautifully composed. thanx.

At first I also though the DOF was a bit too shallow (although I wish we could do that with an Ax at that aperture level), but after a few views I started to appreciate how the bacgrounf becomes almost abstract giving pure color centerstage. Another great shot Kimberly

Thanks Barry ~ I agree with you that I wish I could focus the background more...just not sure how. I took a landscape style photo and everything was in focus but it didn't seem to have much impact. Then I took this one with the focus being on the few poppies in the front. I'm sure there's a way to do it, I'm just not quite handy enough with a camera yet :)

Beautiful photo, beautiful color and good vantage point/composition. I kept looking at it and wanting to see more depth of field keeps tugging at me. Given the exif data, I'm assuming the shallow DOF was achieved in PP. If it were mine I'd probably play with that a bit more to try to achieve a less abrupt blurring.

best regards, Barry
