Upon arrival at the camp each prisoner was assigned a number. From that point on he was nothing but a "number". He was not allowed to use his name when reporting but had to report his number exclusively and was also addressed to as number. Each prisoner had a colored triangular badge (like this one on the right low part of the picture), depending on his or her prisoner category. Political prisoners wore a red triangle badge, Spanish republicans a blue, and Bible Students (Jehovah's Witnesses) a violet triangle. Criminals had a green triangle, "anti-socials" a black one, and homosexuals had to wear a pink triangle. Jewish prisoners were marked with a red-yellow star...
