Seat of Royalty
by Helen Betts

Okinawa, Japan

Shuri Castle in Naha, home of the Ryukyu Kingdom, which ruled Okinawa from the 14th century until 1879, when the kingdom was disbanded and the islands became a Japanese prefecture. It took me three years to get the picture I wanted of this building: brilliantly sunny day, blue sky, a few clouds, and no tourists. This was taken a week to the day before we left Okinawa for good and moved back to Turkey.
