Three buds, by MinoltaManiac

This and following image were dear to me because of the unique atmosphere - grained texture and obscured light in the photograph create this specific mood, filled with warm sensations, and the silhouette makes us think about what's hidden actually. I hope you'll like this one.

Hi MM,

very intriguing image with a perfect title. The silhouette and the lighting work great in conjunction with the title to make us "form the image". A tad too dark with this level of compression. My compliments to your model for playing along in this fun shot.

Both this image and "The Name of the Rose" are very good, and I would love to see them in full size and high resolution. My suggestion is that you upload the full sized and uncompressed originals to your own image site and provide a link to each them in the caption of each of the compressed versions you have submitted to the challenge. Anyway, two great and wonderfully composed entries MM.

Thanks for your words guys. Alain, the reason why you see "unbalanced" dark areas is due to both JPEG compression and screen settings/performance. JPEG is very poor algorithm for rendering extremely dark and extremely bright pictures and I was aware of that - the ideal case is to save this image in TIF and view it like that. Also, monitor performance is crucial. Colour info in 94-100% black areas on an average screen today tends to be black, devoid of detail. On my LCD it looks great and to avoid JPEG mess, I've saved this image as JPEG level 12 in Photoshop. Maximum quality. But that increases file size drastically -- yeah, that's why I had to shrink the image to merely 500 pixels. And yet, this image is so nicely grained that I regret I cannot post it in hi-res because it looks gorgeous in hi-res. Uh, those compromises ... I hate them, but have to live with them!

g'day MM, i like the fact your shooting low light - so grain is a feature - the profile is eye catching and think i'd almost prefer a 'slender' vertical crop - aka Ser's abstract - good one. thanx. adrianox

Great mood, MM. I prefer this one of the similar entries. On my monitor, the shadow part is very dark though, and creates an unpleasant unbalance.

Hi MM, I like your photo. The lighting is great. To me, it is a very complex shot with lots of nuance.
