Combination of the two prior photos to get the depth-of-field I wanted.
I did this in Elements 2 using the masking technique that Gary R of the Oly2100 group explained so well. Thanks, Gary!
The short of it: I opened both in Elements 2 and adjusted levels and sharpened a bit. I then chose the photo in the backgroup and hit "Control A" to select all, then "Control C" to copy it. I then chose the photo in the foreground and hit "Control V" to paste the background into a new layer. I selected the background layer in the "layers" palate, and clicked on the circle at the bottom creating a mask layer (used levels, but it doesn't matter) and clicked on OK. I then made sure the new mask layer was selected and hit "Alternate Key" with the mouse pointer over the line between it and the top layer (turns to cirlce thing)... then "control backspace" and it filled with black. Then selected the paintbrush and painted white the parts I wanted to show through.
