BIRMINGHAM MOTOR SHOW

AUTO UNION GRAND PRIX CAR

This is one of a fairly large number of shots I took at the Motor Show today, the others will be uploaded into their own gallery, as soon as I can find some time to go through them all. I am still ploughing my way through the drag race & railway shots I took at the weekend, so I want to get those galleries finished first.

All opinions and comments are appreciated.

Yes, this is the first issue of the 4630 cc Type R Auto Union. The Name P-Wagen was never officialy used. It was an internal Audi Name due to the fact that in the crisis of the early Nazi Years in Germany, Auto Union was sold for 75000 Reichsmark to a company called Wanderer that was close in business with a guy called Ferdinand Porsche. This Porsche engine gave it the name of P - Wagen. This R type car was first presented in show on
january 1934 on the AVUS circuit in Berlin. It was later in 1935 followed by the B - 8 type with 4950 cc and in 1936 by the C and D types which had 6006 cc and 520 hp at 5200 rpm. The later where able to spped there 750kgs up to 400 kmh. They where with the silver arrows from Mercedes the most powerfull ever build competition cars of this period.

I didn't read the sign, I was too busy taking piccies :-) A quick glance in my library though, came up with a picture of this car (or an identical one). This identified it as a 'P-wagen', 4.4litre V-16, from 1934. I took several pics of this car and I will be uploading them into a 'motor show' gallery, I'll do them first (friday night) so you can see the other angles.

Maybe 40s. It does not have the open grill of the 30s C.

Did you see what year this was? It looks like maybe a 50s AU.
