Makaha Valley was deeded to High Chief, Abner Paki during the the "Great Mahele" (Reorganization of land ownership).
In 1855 the list of taxpayers (read adult males) had
Waianae Kai - 62, Kamaile - 44, Makaha - 38, Makua - 21, Maili - 9, Nanakuli, 8 for a total of 182.
In 1855, Paki sold Makaha Valley to John Holt for $5,000 in gold.
Makaha Beach, Leeward Oahu, is the site of one of the most famous surf meets in Hawaii.
This is also where the late Rell Sun, (The Queen of Makaha) Hawaii's first lady of surfing captivated spectators with her skill and love for the sport.
